I'm also having sync issues with Gmail since updating a couple of Google apps, including Google, Google+ and GMail. I can open the app and refresh, but that's useless for me - I have several work email accounts all forwarded to one work Gmail account, and I need to know when people email me, when they email me, not when I remember to check, since I still need to see the emails even when I'm not at work.
